St. Columba's School - PTA & PTA Executive Committee

Membership of the Parent-Teacher Association: all parents by the fact that their sons are students of St. Columba's school are members of the General Body of the PTA; similarly, all teachers automatically belong to the General Body of the PTA; all Brothers in the Administration and Management of the school are members of the PTA General Body.

The purpose of the PTA is to provide a forum where the opinions of the various adult stakeholders of the school can frankly be shared. This is significant in enabling all stakeholders in assisting the school in reaching its objectives. It is noted that this body is consultative. All decisions pertaining to the school are ratified in the Managing Committee of the school.

The PTA body is a joint effort between Parents and Teachers to make the experience of our sons / students at SCS a more enriching one. Each parent is a volunteer, offering their willingness to contribute time, energy and help facilitate resources to SCS. The schoolParent Teacher Association Executive Committee consists of 15 parents (at least one from each class – classes 1 to 12). KG parents are new to the school system and thus, are given a year to understand the rich traditions of the school since its inception more than 80 years ago and the particular ethos of the school, making the school a unique educational environment. There are another 12 Teacher representatives (one from each the set of teachers, teaching a class – classes 1 to 12). The Section Heads and the Principal are ex-officio members. The term of a parent representative is 2 + 2 years, so long as the son of the said parent remains a student of the school. A teacher’s term is for 2 years. These positions are honorary.

Parents who wish to be selected to this forum are requested to send in their applications to the Principal at presidentpta@stcolumbas.edu.in . It is important that such parents commit themselves to attend PTA Executive meetings regularly - generally once in a couple of months, on a Friday afternoon at 3pm. It is expected that such parents bring a holistic consideration of education to the discussions and that their concern goes beyond the wellbeing of their child to the entire teaching-learning community in the school. They are expected to consider long-term implications of all suggestions. The Principal, in consultation with the respective Headmistress / Headmaster / Administrator, nominates parents to this core group and in consultation with the Vice President (Parents) of the PTA Executive Committee, the Principal then appoints parents to the PTA Executive Committee.

The PTA executive committee members meet often for a stronger link between the school and the home. We are here as a part of you, for our Sons, School and Society, at large. Together with the teachers, we make important decisions regarding curriculum and projects, organizing events and raising funds to support our children’s learning and make the environment at SCS the best it can be e.g., choosing of text books; facilitating the communication between school and the parents by introducing an eCare system; concerns regarding uniforms, enabling our students be competitive on a national and international stage through Olympiads; building an ever safer and healthy environment for our students; opting to introduce a medical check-up system for all children : DIGICARE, etc.

The PTA Fee which is the PTA annual membership fee and any other charges the PTA Executive Committee decides upon, are required because of the additional benefit in services provided to the student-parent and teaching community. The decisions of the PTA Executive, especially those involving any financial aspects are ratified at the next PTA AGM.
