St. Columba’s School – Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) & PTA Executive Committee
Membership of the PTA
All parents, by virtue of their sons being students of St. Columba’s School, are members of the General Body of the PTA. Similarly, all teachers of the school and the Brothers involved in administration and management are members of this General Body.
Purpose of the PTA
The PTA serves as a forum for open and constructive dialogue among parents, teachers, and administrators. It enables all adult stakeholders to share their perspectives and assist the school in achieving its mission. While the PTA is consultative in nature, all final decisions pertaining to the school are ratified by the School Managing Committee.
Spirit of the PTA
The PTA is a joint effort of parents and teachers to make the learning journey of our students at St. Columba’s School more enriching. Every parent is a volunteer, offering their time, energy, and resources to support the school community. Together, we work for our Students, School, and Society at large.
PTA Executive Committee
The PTA Executive Committee is the working core of the Association and is composed of:
- 15 Parent Representatives – at least one from each class (I–XII). Parents of KG students are invited to join only after one year, giving them time to understand the school’s 80+ years of rich traditions and unique ethos.
- 12 Teacher Representatives – one from each class set (I–XII).
- Ex-officio members – the Principal and Section Heads.
Terms of Service:
- Parent Representatives: 2 + 2 years, provided their son remains enrolled in the school.
- Teacher Representatives: 2 years.
- All positions are honorary.
Selection of Parent Representatives
Parents who wish to serve are invited to apply to the Principal at presidentpta@stcolumbas.edu.in. Selected members are expected to:
- Attend meetings regularly (usually once every two or three months).
- Contribute with a holistic, long-term view of education that goes beyond the interests of their own child.
- Support the wellbeing of the entire teaching-learning community.
Appointments are made by the Principal, who is the President of the PTA, in consultation with the respective Headmistress/Headmaster, and the Vice President (Parents) of the PTA Executive Committee.
Responsibilities and Activities
The PTA Executive Committee strengthens the bond between home and school through initiatives such as:
- Contributing to curriculum-related discussions and textbook selection.
- Enhancing communication between parents and school.
- Addressing practical concerns such as uniforms, transport, etc.
- Promoting student excellence in academics, co-curricular activities, and competitions (e.g., Olympiads at national and international levels).
- Supporting student health and safety initiatives (e.g., DIGICARE medical check-ups, etc.).
- Organizing events and fundraising activities that benefit the learning environment.
PTA Fee
The PTA annual membership fee, along with any other charges decided by the Executive Committee, supports additional services and initiatives for the benefit of students, parents, and teachers. All financial decisions are placed before the next PTA Annual General Meeting (AGM) for ratification.
