Description:
"Autism is not a disability, it's a different ability."
At St. Columba’s School, inclusivity and acceptance are core values that shape our community. In keeping with these principles, the Junior Wing celebrated World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, 2025, with students of Class 3. The event aimed to build awareness and appreciation of autism spectrum disorder, encouraging a culture of empathy and inclusion.
The theme of the day, "Celebrate Differences," inspired students to embrace diversity and support their peers. Through interactive discussions and engaging audio-visual presentations, teachers helped students understand autism, emphasizing the importance of kindness and friendship.
The highlight of the day was the ‘Blue Handprint Activity,’ during which students expressed ideas on how they can support someone who feels left out, shy, or alone. They decorated their handprints with care, symbolizing unity, support, and friendship. Teachers also wore blue attire, the official colour of World Autism Awareness Day, as a visual representation of support and solidarity for individuals with autism.
The celebration at the Junior Wing was a meaningful and impactful experience. It reinforced the values of compassion, inclusion, and sensitivity. Through such initiatives, we continue to foster a school environment where every individual is valued, respected, and supported.
