Description: “There is no greater disability in society, than the inability to see a person as more.” December 3rd is celebrated as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, worldwide. The day is observed to highlight the rights and well being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development. This day is also marked to encourage increased assimilation of persons with disabilities in the socio-political, economic and cultural aspects of life. Keeping this thought in mind, we at St. Columba’s Junior School celebrated this day to promote awareness among our children towards people with disabilities. The learning centre team organized an activity on 6th December 2022, for classes 2 and 3 where the boys had to write slogans and draw on the topic “How can I help people with disabilities?” For the activity, the boys were asked to get a slogan written on an A4 sheet from home. On the main event day boys were encouraged to draw on the topic and decorate the drawing with colours, beads and stickers. The students displayed their creativity and made beautiful drawings and wrote heart touching slogans. Also, the learners gave many suggestions about how they can help children with special needs in school. This surely helped in sensitising our students about inclusivity, tolerance and acceptance towards all kinds of people.
