Description:
“All that is valuable in human society depends upon the individual's opportunity for development. All growth depends upon activity. There is no physical or intellectual development without effort.”
The Junior Wing Sports program exemplifies this ethos, providing young learners with opportunities to develop their fine and gross motor skills through engaging and challenging activities. This year’s Sports Day, held on 14th December, was a lively affair that tested not only physical capabilities but also presence of mind, precision, and teamwork.
Eagerly awaited by students, teachers, and parents alike, the event began with an air of anticipation. Our esteemed Chief Guest, Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a renowned alumnus and Senior Member of Parliament, graced the occasion alongside Principal Brother Robert, Headmistress Mrs Ritu Kaushal, and other dignitaries. The Air Force Band welcomed the guests with stirring melodies, setting the stage for the students' grand march past. The boys’ synchronized steps and sharp movements were a sight to behold.
The class contingents, standing proudly on the field, participated in the ceremonial oath, pledging to uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship. Following this, the Air Force Band once again delighted the audience with patriotic tunes. The highlight of the opening ceremony was the unveiling of the Sports Day Mascot, "The Golden Eagle," a symbol of strength, courage, and resilience—values integral to the ethos of the school and inspired by our founder, Blessed Edmund Rice. The event gained momentum as the Golden Eagle’s wings were adorned with vibrant hues, the Sports Day Flag was unfurled, and the Chief Guest declared the meet officially open.
The tiny tots from KG showcased their charm and energy with a drill set to “Nanha Munna Rahi,” dressed in track pants inspired by the colours of the armed forces. Fun Skill Challenges and races like the Hoopla and Ball, Word Challenge, Balanced Diet Race, Edmund Rice Puzzle Challenge, Zig Zag Obstacle Course, and Ball Balancing Challenge showcased the students’ dexterity and enthusiasm while keeping the spectators enthralled. These track and field races were not only entertaining but also rooted in inculcating skills among young learners. Skills like balancing, spatial intelligence, quick thinking, and agility were further tested during these races.
The excitement continued with the running events—75-meter sprints, hurdles, hoop races, and the 200-meter relay—bringing a rush of adrenaline to participants and spectators alike. The air buzzed with applause and cheers as the boys gave it their all, culminating in the prize distribution for these events.
The spirit of teamwork and creativity shone as Class 1 performed a vibrant Mass Drill with eye-catching golden pompoms, while Class 2 amazed the audience with a stunning Ribbon Drill set to a medley of upbeat songs. Class 3 contributed a unique touch by forming numbers from 1 to 10 on the field. Traditional elements blended seamlessly with modern energy during the Dandiya Drill and energetic Zumba performances, both of which were crowd favourites.
Inclusivity was a hallmark of the day. Fathers competed in a lively Bean Bag Race, mothers showcased their vigour in a Zumba session, and the teachers triumphed in a friendly Tug-of-War against the mothers. The school helpers, an essential part of the institution, also joined the festivities with a spirited 100-meter race.
The day culminated in the much-anticipated Prize Distribution Ceremony. Trophies for Best Marching, Best Drill, and the Overall Champions were presented to deserving winners amid cheers of encouragement. Our respected Principal Br. Robert encouraged the athletes and emphasized the significance of sports in daily life in his address, while Headmistress Mrs Ritu Kaushal delivered the Vote of Thanks, applauding the efforts of students, staff, and parents in making the day a grand success.
The Junior Wing Sports Day concluded on a high note with the School Anthem, leaving behind cherished memories and renewed inspiration for all participants.
