Description: A workshop on ‘Social Justice and Advocacy’ was conducted for the teachers of the Junior Wing on 17th May 2024 by Mrs Ritu Joseph and Mrs Upasna Behl. The session focused on how teachers can integrate social justice principles into their daily lesson planning by emphasizing the 5Ps—People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership. This framework can be applied across various subjects to promote comprehensive learning. During the workshop, teachers participated in an engaging activity where they categorized the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 5Ps. This exercise helped them understand how to relate global goals to their teaching practices. Advocacy was a key topic of the session. There were discussions about different methods to initiate advocacy in the Junior Wing. The workshop covered various interactive and creative approaches, including ‘Craftivism’, ‘Artivism’, Role Play, letter writing, ‘Open Mic’ events, etc. These activities aim to involve students in meaningful ways and foster a sense of responsibility towards social issues. There have been dedicated efforts by the Junior Wing educators in the past years to integrate the 5 Ps of the SDGs through varied activities, assemblies and events in the Junior School. This session further provided new insights for the teachers to devise innovative activities and strategies to incorporate the SDGs into their curriculum and actively promote advocacy among Junior Wing students.
