Description:
Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act 2016 recognizes 21 disabilities. It is said that early identification and certification of Children with special needs can assist the teachers and parents to support the special needs of each student. Under the directions of the Department of Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Prashast, a screening checklist was administered on all students in the Middle Section from Classes 4-10. This included Part 1 which was administered by the subject teachers and the co-curricular activities teachers and Part 2 which was administered by the special educators. This helped identify students who were showing warning signs. At the end of Part 2, parents of the identified cases were called for a meeting on 20 May 2024 at 1:40 pm in the Middle School auditorium.
They were informed about their ward’s areas of concerns. Further as per the directions from the DOE, it was suggested that they take their ward for a formal Psychometric Assessment to Government Hospitals. This would help in deciding the further course of action and support that would help the student.
Mrs Pal, the Headmistress of Middle Section and all the Special Educators were present for this meeting.
