PRASHAST SCREENING - A REVIEW
Prashast is a screening tool that facilitates the educators to identify students with potential disabilities at an early stage, paving way for a more equitable and supportive learning environment.
On 19th of March 2025, Ms. Geeta Sehgal and Ms. Gail Pereira conducted a session to revisit the Prashast screening and the process that needs to be followed. The session helped the educators to revisit the two parts of the tool. For screening effectively, the curricular and the co-curricular educators need to collaborate and systematically conclude the process. Deadlines for the internal working were shared.
It was highlighted that early intervention is the need of the hour. Awareness about the primary disabilities was created including the Specific learning disabilities- dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyslexia, Autism spectrum disorder, Intellectual disability, dwarfism and few others. It was reinforced that in order to ensure an effective teaching-learning process, teachers are to keep in mind the varied learning styles and accordingly plan the class activities.
Stress was laid on the educators being proactive to identify the potential cases by using the Prashast tool. Sensitization of the entire class with regards to the students who need support was highlighted.
