Description:
Parent orientation programs play a vital role in facilitating a seamless transition for both parents and the school community. These sessions aim to ensure parental comfort and preparedness by providing comprehensive information regarding the school environment, available resources, and academic and behavioral expectations. This proactive engagement fosters a sense of belonging and equips parents to effectively support their child's adaptation to the formal schooling setting.
The Kindergarten Parents' Orientation for the academic year 2025-2026 was conducted on March 1, 2025, in the Edmund Rice Hall. In accordance with the tradition of commencing all events at St. Columba’s with a spiritual invocation, our respected Principal, Brother Robert, initiated the program with a prayer song centered on the theme of ‘Unity.’
This served to underscore the importance of a shared vision, with the child's well-being as the central focus. Brother Robert subsequently informed the parents about the school's ethos and governance structure. Emphasizing the institution's commitment to accountability through regular audits, the established protocols for fee payments were elucidated. Furthermore, parents were introduced to the e-Care application and provided with key dates for the upcoming academic year. He also highlighted fundamental expectations concerning parental and student adherence to principles of punctuality and discipline.
Following this address, he invited the Junior School Headmistress, Mrs. Kaushal, to elaborate on the pedagogical approaches employed by the school. Mrs. Kaushal addressed the National Education Policy, emphasizing the critical significance of early childhood education, given that the most substantial phase of brain development occurs before the age of six. She underscored the paramount importance of parents dedicating quality time to their children and fostering their independence. The school's curriculum is structured based on the domains outlined in the National Curriculum Framework.
Teachers from the Department of Kindergarten provided parents with a detailed overview of the curriculum's progression, highlighting its integrated approach encompassing activities, hands-on learning experiences, vocabulary enrichment, socio-emotional development, and the cultivation of positive learning habits. Through engagement with these domains, learners are guided towards achieving the developmental milestones appropriate for their age group. The orientation concluded with an open forum, providing parents with an opportunity to seek clarification on matters such as fees, transportation arrangements, and other significant dates.
