Description: "If we nurture the dreams of children, the world will be blessed. If we destroy them, the world is doomed!" The students of Classes 2 and 3 embarked on a creative journey to understand children’s rights through engaging activities held in the Junior School held on 19th December 2024. The sessions aimed to introduce the rights to safety, education, and freedom of expression in a manner that was both meaningful and enjoyable for the young Columbans. The day began with an interactive discussion and a vibrant visual presentation, simplifying the concept of children’s rights and helping students relate these principles to their daily lives. The students then participated in a range of creative activities to deepen their understanding of these rights. Class 2 students designed badges with impactful slogans such as “I have the right to learn” and “I am safe and heard,” while Class 3 students took part in the “What If… - Art Expression” activity. In this exercise, they imagined a world without rights, creating side-by-side illustrations to depict two contrasting realities: one where children were deprived of schools, playgrounds, and freedom of speech, and another where their rights were respected and upheld. These activities encouraged the children to think critically and express their thoughts creatively. Through the illustrations, they reflected on how a life without rights would feel—describing it as devoid of joy—and discussed the importance of protecting these freedoms. These activities seamlessly blended creativity and critical thinking, leaving a profound impact on the students. They gained a deeper understanding of the significance of children’s rights in a simplified manner and learnt how these rights influence their own lives and the lives of others.
