Report on SCS Climate Meet
Event Date- 30.01.2025
The Fourth Edition of the SCS Climate Meet took place on January 30, 2025, in the Edmund Rice Hall at St. Columba’s School, bringing together 12 schools, including St. Columba’s, under the theme ‘Clean Air & Green Schools: Shaping a Sustainable Future.’ Organised by the Social Justice Animators of the Middle School's Eco Club, the event aimed to foster awareness and action towards environmental sustainability.
The meet commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Br. William Dsouza, Br. Robert Fernandes and Mrs. Aparajita Pal, followed by a heartfelt hymn and a solemn prayer, setting the tone for the day. Principal Br. Robert, in his address, emphasised the power of collective action and encouraged students and teachers to take small but impactful actions toward sustainability. Headmistress Mrs. Pal addressed Delhi’s ongoing AQI crisis, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship. Ms. Grace David then provided an overview of the event’s background and agenda.
The learning partners for the day, Tatva Essence and Green Sizz, were introduced. The Tatva Essence specialises in converting organic waste into high-quality compost. They also empower students with new skills and align them with global sustainability standards. They shared their mission in creating greener communities by promoting waste management and eco-friendly practices.
GreenSizz, an agritech startup dedicated to transforming India’s exotic fruit and vegetable supply chain, provided farm-fresh fruit salad for students and teachers, promoting farm-fresh produce and sustainable agriculture. In collaboration with Tatva Essence, hands-on activities such as DIY planter-making were conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Rama Tyagi, our resource person who is a passionate gardener, dedicated social worker and an influential environmental advocate. Students prepared aesthetically pleasing planters while ensuring optimal conditions for plant growth. They were encouraged to create green nooks in their classrooms and monitor AQI improvements. Meanwhile, another group of students contributed to the development of a kitchen garden within the school’s green campus.
In the latter half of the event, students analysed case studies in their allocated teams, examining the detrimental effects of poor air quality on human life. They engaged in discussions and brainstorming sessions, followed by a sharing session where they reflected on their insights and proposed solutions.
The Climate Meet proved to be a resounding success, effectively spreading knowledge, fostering collaboration, and inspiring actionable steps toward a more sustainable future.
