‘Today a reader, tomorrow a leader’. To inculcate the habit of reading amongst the student community, on the 11th of Oct 2024 St Columba’s organised a workshop for the English department on the topic- ‘Raising Readers-Stamina and Fluency’. It was an interactive and impactful workshop to introduce effective teaching techniques to encourage the culture of reading amongst young learners. It was conducted by an experienced and senior educator Ms. Rohini Bhat. She talked about engaging ways to create activities around reading. She threw the spotlight on the importance of using a variety of texts to develop reading skills. Reading techniques like skimming ,scanning, active reading and expressive punctuation were discussed. Through group work, the educators revisited a variety of activities which make reading an enjoyable activity for the students.
