"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their
dreams."
– Eleanor Roosevelt
From the 31st of July to the 2nd of August 2025, the Middle Section of
St. Columba’s School once again proved that education, when nurtured with heart
and vision, becomes a celebration. The second edition of Br. Eric Steve
D’Souza Columban Mélange unfolded across three vibrant days, bringing
together 26 schools and more than 1,600 students from across the city in a
shared spirit of discovery, creativity, and collaboration.
Dedicated to the memory of Late Brother Eric Steve D’Souza — fondly
remembered as “Br. Steve” — Columban Mélange 2025 was far more than an
inter-school competition. It was a living tribute to a man whose vision for
holistic education reshaped our institution’s landscape. Brother Steve’s legacy
— one of innovation, inclusivity, and inspiration — echoed in every event,
every performance, and every moment of this fest. His contributions, from
pioneering computer education in the 1980s to empowering underprivileged
communities through vocational training, were recalled with warmth and pride
during the inaugural ceremony, setting a deeply meaningful tone for the days to
follow.
The fest began with a solemn and graceful Opening Ceremony in the
presence of Brother Agnelo Benjamin, esteemed Heads, and invited guests. The
ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Brother Agnelo and the Heads of the school
invoked blessings and symbolised the illuminating journey ahead. A soulful
prayer dance followed, grounding the gathering in reverence and grace.
Participants were then guided through a brief but vital Disaster Management
awareness segment, a testament to the school’s commitment to safety and
responsibility.
What followed over the next three days was nothing short of
extraordinary. Columban Mélange 2025 provided a rich tapestry of events
designed to celebrate multiple intelligences and diverse student talents. From
the sharp intellects showcased in Knowledge Knockout to the refined artistry of
Elevate & Create; from the coding brilliance of Tech-a-Thon to the
expressive performances in Language Luminaries and Kala Sangam, every event
offered a unique stage for students to explore their potential. Taste Quest
brought out culinary imagination, while Ignite sparked scientific thought and
curiosity. Musical Odyssey reverberated with soul and harmony, and Snap-masters
captured moments frozen in time. Students found cultural connection through
Hispanotsav and Liederfest, while the grace and energy of Indak Euphoria
enthralled audiences. Echoes of Time highlighted historical insights, and
Vangmay Nidhi brought Sanskrit to life in creative and meaningful ways.
The school campus, alive with colour and camaraderie, buzzed with
excitement as students from different schools competed across various
categories. The results for each sub-event were announced promptly upon
conclusion, with medals and certificates awarded to the winners, and
e-certificates presented to all participants in recognition of their efforts.
Being the host school, we ensured that in all events where our students secured
a position, the achievement was graciously shared with the next school in line
— a gesture that celebrated the spirit of fair recognition and honoured the
efforts of the next deserving rank holder as well.
Interspersed with the competitive events were cultural presentations
that served as artistic interludes — dynamic dance performances, musical
renditions, and short skits that brought lightness, laughter, and perspective
to the day’s flow. These moments reminded us that while competition may drive
us, it is creativity and community that truly bind us.
The fest concluded with a heartfelt and dignified Closing Ceremony on
the 2nd of August. Anchors invited the audience to reflect on the memories made
and the journey travelled. The audience was treated to an energetic and elegant
dance performance before the announcement of the most anticipated moment — the
declaration of the overall champion. Brother Agnelo Benjamin and Headmistress
Mrs. Aparajita Pal took to the stage to award the prestigious Br. Eric Steve
D’Souza Rolling Trophy to Delhi Public
School, Noida. The applause that followed was both thunderous and touching,
a moment of triumph not only for the winners but for all who had contributed to
the spirit of Mélange.
Brother Agnelo's closing address was one of gratitude and inspiration,
reminding students and teachers alike of the power of vision and shared
endeavour. Mrs. Aparajita Pal’s Vote of Thanks acknowledged the tireless
efforts of organisers, volunteers, staff, and participants who had worked in
harmony to create a fest marked by excellence and grace. The event came to a
close with the singing of the School Anthem, a unifying moment that resonated
through the hall with pride and quiet strength. Before departing, all present
were reminded once more of the person whose light continues to guide this
celebration — Late Brother Eric Steve D’Souza, whose ideals of education,
innovation, and compassion remain deeply embedded in every corner of Columban
life.
Columban Mélange 2025 was not merely an event — it was a memory in
motion, a tribute brought to life, and a festival of ideas, culture, and
connection.
As the curtains fell and
students returned with stories and smiles, the flame of Br. Steve’s vision
continued to burn brighter than ever.
