Description:
On 23rd July 2025, thirty-one senior students from St. Columba’s School, representing the Environment and Disaster Management Society, participated in a plantation drive organised by the reputed environmental organisation, “I Am Gurgaon.”
The drive was part of an ongoing initiative focused on the ecological restoration of the Aravalli Hills, one of the oldest and most vital mountain ranges in the Indian subcontinent. The students actively engaged in the plantation of native flora, thereby contributing meaningfully to the preservation and rewilding of this ecologically significant region.
Guided by experienced professionals and ecologists from “I Am Gurgaon,” the students were also sensitised to the medicinal and ecological importance of indigenous plant species. The session highlighted how native vegetation plays a critical role in maintaining biodiversity, improving soil health, recharging groundwater, and enhancing overall environmental sustainability.
The activity served as a valuable experiential learning opportunity, fostering environmental awareness and responsibility among the students. The school extends its sincere appreciation to “I Am Gurgaon” for facilitating this initiative and for their continued commitment to ecological restoration and community engagement.
