Description: Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a perfect example of someone whose calibre changed the world, once said: “Excellence happens not by accident. It is a process.” We, Class 12 F, share our thoughts on a topic that affects how we define success—Wealth vs. Calibre. While wealth means having a lot of money, property, or expensive things, it is something external—it is what we have, not who we are. Calibre is a person’s inner strength—their ability, intelligence, discipline, and values. Unlike wealth, calibre is something we build over time, through learning, effort, and experience. As students, our focus should be on becoming capable, not just wealthy. We can build our calibre by being honest, hardworking, curious, and respectful. Good habits, strong values, and a love for learning help us grow into successful individuals. In today’s world, many people admire those who are rich and famous. Social media often shows wealth as a sign of success. But true success is more than just money. People with calibre—like good teachers, doctors, scientists, and social workers—may not always be rich, but they make a big difference in society. We must learn to value people for their character and contributions, not just their wealth. The best time to build our calibre is now—while we are still in school. Every small habit counts. Being honest in class, completing homework on time, helping a friend, or admitting a mistake—all these actions help shape our character. Wealth can provide comfort, but it is calibre that brings true success and respect. While wealth may open doors, it is calibre that helps us walk through them with purpose and confidence. We close with a quote by the famous singer, song writer and musician, Dolly Parton: “Don’t get so busy making a living, that you forget to make a life.” Let’s begin that process today—with hard work, values, and a strong will to grow.
