A teachers-workshop titled ‘Puppets in the Classroom’ was conducted on May 10, 2024, by Mrs Monika Gulati in St. Columba’s Junior School. The session introduced educators to the art of storytelling in the classroom through shadow puppets.
Recognizing the significance of interactive and engaging teaching methodologies, the workshop aimed to equip teachers with innovative tools to enhance storytelling experiences for students. The teachers learned to create shadow puppets using paper cutouts and sticks, followed by practical sessions where teachers, in groups, conducted storytelling lessons using shadow puppets, a theatre box made of cardboard, and a light source coupled with voice modulation techniques.
This workshop showcased a novel approach to classroom storytelling, demonstrating the versatility of shadow puppets, and illustrating their potential to not only narrate stories but also to teach rhymes and songs, thereby enriching the learning experience for students.
