Description:
Storytelling is the most powerful way to put ideas into today's world.’—Robert McKee.
Children have an innate love for stories. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder in the world. They teach us about life, about ourselves, and about others. A good storytelling session can do wonders for a child’s imagination and can really work at enhancing his expression.
A story-telling session was organised for Class 3 students on the 3rd of May, 2023, where Mrs. Simi Srivastava, a gifted and renowned storyteller was invited to conduct the session in collaboration with Scholastic India. She narrated a story of 'Maggu the farmer' who wanted peace and took the students along on a memorable journey. Mrs. Srivastava ignited a spark of curiosity from the moment she started her narrative to create an aura of enthusiasm through a high-energy packed storytelling session with colourful props to add more liveliness. The perfect voice modulations according to the story's characters highlighted the mark of a perfectionist. She also sang rhymes and requested the children to repeat them with her, making the session interactive and zestful.
To create an engaging atmosphere for the students, Mrs. Srivastava used simple tools like a piece of cloth, and some handheld musical instruments as props to aid the narration. Some of the students were selected to participate as characters in the story which heightened the involvement of the students. The boys were highly responsive and eager to participate throughout the session. The activity was thoroughly enjoyed by the students as well as by the teachers present.
Learning through storytelling was surely a thoughtful initiative, undoubtedly the best learning methodology to entertain and engage with the kids.
