In
line with the Directorate of Education’s guidelines, the Junior Wing of St.
Columba’s School observed an awareness campaign titled “Say No to
Crackers — A Step Towards a Cleaner Tomorrow” from 13th to 17th
October 2025. The initiative aimed to sensitise students about the harmful
effects of firecrackers on health, animals, and the environment, while
promoting the spirit of an eco-friendly Diwali.
The
week-long campaign included engaging classroom discussions, craft-based
activities, and PPT presentations highlighting the importance of celebrating
Diwali responsibly. Students learned how bursting crackers causes air and noise
pollution and harms animals. They were encouraged to share the joy of the
festival with the underprivileged through acts of kindness and giving,
spreading light in a more meaningful way.
The
boys also took a pledge to celebrate a green Diwali and were urged to carry
this message home to their families, inspiring their parents to avoid bursting
crackers too. Posters and display boards across the school reinforced the
campaign’s message of celebrating with care and compassion.
The
initiative successfully nurtured a sense of environmental responsibility and
empathy among the young Columbans, reminding everyone that true celebration
lies in protecting our planet and bringing happiness to others.
