A
group of Class XII students from St. Columba's School participated in the
prestigious CSIR JIGYASA Summer Internship Programme from 8 June to 19 June
2026. The internship was conducted in the Time and Frequency Metrology
Department, where students gained firsthand exposure to the science of precise
timekeeping and measurement.
During
the programme, students learned about time generation and dissemination, the
functioning of atomic clocks, frequency standards, and the crucial role of
accurate time synchronization in communication, navigation, banking, and
scientific research. They attended expert lectures, interacted with scientists,
and visited advanced laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art metrology
instruments.
The
internship provided a unique opportunity to experience scientific research
beyond the classroom, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper
appreciation for the role of metrology in modern technology. The programme
proved to be an enriching and inspiring experience for all participating
students.
