Description: In commemoration of Nelson Mandela’s 107th birthday, a program was held at the Indian International Centre on 18th July in collaboration with Gandhi Yuva Baradari, United Nations Information Centre, and Working Group on Alternative Strategies. A total of 10 members of the JustEd Society had represented St. Columba’s there accompanied by Mrs. Grace David. To begin, a flag march was headed by heads of various schools at Gandhi Memorial Plaza to instill the continuations of Madiba’s contributions. The program involved message from the UN Secretary General António Guterres read by Mr. Darrin Farrant, Director, United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan. Moreover to mark the sense of Madiba's ideologies and core values in today’s societal virtues, discussions were led by the speakers: H.E. Prof. Anil Sooklal, High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa; and Shri Suhas Borker, Convener, Working Group on Alternative Strategies. An exhibition of paintings by different schools was also organised as part of the Taking Gandhi to Children series that brings children closer to the enduring legacy of Gandhi’s non-violent struggle for equity, justice, pluralism and sustainable development. Songs were sung by schools from Delhi NCR to trace the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Overall it happened to be a worthwhile and an impactful day with the interactive sessions held there along with inputs from JustEd Society’s members in it amongst several schools from all over Delhi NCR.
