Description: World Mental Health Day is observed on 10th October every year, to raise awareness about mental health issues around the world and mobilize efforts in support of mental health. We at St. Columba’s School provide opportunities which not only focus on physical well-being of the learners but also on their mental well-being. In commemoration of World Mental Health Day, the Counselling Department at Junior Wing collaborated with speakers of Cosmos Institute of Mental and Behavioral Sciences (CIMBS), a private organization working with mentally ill patients for the past 35 years. The two speakers from CIMBS- Dr. Kudrat Jain, a psychiatrist and Ms. Sonali Jain, a clinical psychologist conducted a short workshop on the 12th October, 2022 in the Junior school Hall for the Class 3 students. The theme for World Mental Health Day celebration for 2022 is “Mann ki Unnati Campaign.” The resource people conducted a session about expressing emotions through art and drawing. Art is indeed therapeutic as it helps learners to express their complex emotions which are sometimes difficult to put into words. Art can provide a very natural and safe way for children to express their innermost feelings. The students were all set with their sheets and colors to make a poster on topics like- my family, my happy place, nature etc. The aim of choosing these topics was to make students brainstorm about the factors in our life that give us happiness. The students from Classes 3B and 3D actively participated and enjoyed thoroughly. Beautiful posters that they designed were a true showcase to their inner expression. This session marked an important event in the Junior School and helped the children to express themselves.
