Description:
The Middle School of St. Columba’s School celebrated Edmund Rice Day on Monday, 5th May 2025, with deep reverence and enthusiasm. This year, the theme “Echoes of Peace – From Edmund Rice to Us” served as a guiding light, inspiring students to reflect on the values of compassion, service and peace that Blessed Edmund Rice stood for.
To set the premise for the celebration, a Quote Writing and Poster Making activity was conducted on 30th April, 2025. Students from various classes expressed their understanding of Edmund Rice’s legacy through thought-provoking quotes and beautifully crafted posters, which were displayed on the foyer boards to spread messages of peace and empathy.
The celebrations on 5th May began with a special morning assembly conducted through the intercom. Students led the prayer and shared reflections & messages about the inspiring life, work and teachings of our founder. The peaceful tone of the assembly set the mood for a meaningful day ahead.
A Feast Day Special Mass service was held for the Catholic boys of classes 10 to 12 in the MSA. The main celebrant was Fr. Ronald Saldanha SJ. This prayer service was attended by students, teachers, and by the Brothers.
One of the day’s highlights was the Treasure Hunt titled “Pearls of Wisdom”, where students actively searched for hidden quotes of Edmund Rice displayed around the campus during their break time. Those who found the maximum number of quotes and submitted them had their names announced with pride at the end of the day! The winners were rewarded with chocolates for their enthusiastic participation.
A PowerPoint presentation was also showcased during the activity period and students were engaged in discussions centred around the key aspects and values of our founder.
In the true spirit of Edmund Rice, a week-long Donation Drive was held to support those in need. Demonstrating remarkable generosity, students brought in essential rations such as rice, flour, and pulses — collectively amounting to 705 kg. Their contributions stand as a powerful testament to their shared commitment to service, justice, and compassion.
The Edmund Rice Day celebrations were a true reflection of his legacy — empowering young minds to be thoughtful, giving, and peaceful citizens of tomorrow.
