Description:
Virasat Club Visit to “Remembering Hiroshima–Nagasaki” Exhibition & Talk
On 8th August 2025, the students of Virasat—the History Club of St. Columba’s School—Classes 8 to 10, attended the “Remembering Hiroshima–Nagasaki” programme at the India International Centre, New Delhi. The event featured a thought-provoking talk by Ambassador Rakesh Sood, former envoy to Afghanistan, Nepal, and France, and India’s first Permanent Representative to the UN Conference on Disarmament.
The students had the rare opportunity to interact personally with Ambassador Sood, engaging in meaningful dialogue on the lessons of history, peace, and nuclear disarmament. They also visited the moving photo exhibition inaugurated by H.E. Ono Keiichi, Ambassador of Japan, which depicted the devastating aftermath and human stories of the atomic bombings.
Adding to the day’s significance, the students were interviewed by a reporter from The Tribune, who was deeply impressed by their insightful and empathetic perspectives. Their articulate responses not only reflected a deep understanding of history but also made a lasting impression on Ambassador Sood and the audience present.
The students were accompanied by the club teachers, Mrs. Monika Khiani and Mrs. Natasha Banerjee. This visit marked yet another milestone in Virasat’s journey of connecting history with lived experiences and global citizenship.
