ANNUAL SPORTS DAY - JUNIOR SCHOOL

Description: “Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.” – Michael Jordan The much awaited Annual Sports Day of the Junior Wing was held on 9th December 2022 on the school ground in a frolicsome atmosphere. The event was marked by a string of spectacular performances presented by the little champs of the school, who were brimming with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The day began with the welcome of the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajiv Tomar, a renowned wrestler and an Arjuna Awardee, who graced the occasion with his benign presence. The presence of our honourable Principal, Brother Robert Fernandes, Ex Principal, Brother Beddoe, Headmaster,-Senior Wing, Mr Naresh Chopra, Headmistress-Middle Wing, Mrs. Aparajita Pal, Headmistress-Junior Wing, Mrs Ritu Kaushal, Bursar, Brother Sameer, Brother William, Fathers from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, and the retired teachers motivated our students even further. The grand musical band presentation by the Rajputana Rifles Army Band left one and all in awe. The little lads of all sections of Classes 1,2 and 3 led by their respective flag bearers, marched in synchrony to the beat of the drum. The March Past was dedicated to the promotion of Sustainable Developmental Goals of the UN. The representatives from each section held placards with messages to create awareness for the same. The Torch Relay was led by the PTI, Mrs Kamla Dubey who was escorted by the young Columbans who have excelled in various Sports and brought laurels to our school. The blazing flames of the torch symbolised the light and the passion of the sporting spirit. Abdullah Usmani from class 3D led the boys in taking the oath, affirming our faith in fair play. The music club boys presented a medley of the songs, which encouraged everyone to live life in the moment and give their best in whatever they do. This was followed by an astounding inaugural dance performance on the beats of Indo Western Fusion music by class 3B students which invited huge applause from the parents and guests. The Chief Guest, Mr. Tomar and our honourable Principal, Br. Robert Fernandes declared the Annual Sports Meet open by releasing the balloons in shades of Columban green and gold. The soaring free-spirited balloons signified the aspirations of young Columbans to reach for the skies. The meet commenced with track races for the boys of different classes. The enthusiastic runners had their eyes set on the finishing line. It was a delight to see the zestful young champs sprinting in their track lanes. Class 1 boys showcased various Yoga Asanas to improve strength, balance and flexibility. The tiny tots of Kindergarten won the hearts of the audience with their endearing drill performances dressed in colourful costumes. The Bhangra Dance performance by the students lifted the energy level of the meet to another level. The students of Class 2 presented an energising exercise drill with glittering fans in their hands. The spectacular drill performance by the students of Class 3 were a perfect blend of rhythmic aerobic exercises, strength training and stretching. The winners were felicitated with medals and trophies amidst thunderous applause. The highlight of the morning was the three very special events – the Zumba performance by the parents, the Helpers Race and the ‘Tug of War’ between the teachers and the mothers of the students. All three sporting events saw very enthusiastic participation by the teachers, the helpers and the parents. They were encouraged with loud cheering by the boys which filled the air with much excitement. The Chief Guest, Mr. Tomar appreciated the display of great sportsmanship by the young Columbans. The honourable Principal, Br. Robert Fernandes encouraged the students to always put their best foot forward through his motivational speech. The Headmistress of the Junior Wing, Mrs Ritu Kaushal presented the Vote of Thanks and applauded the efforts of the students with her uplifting words. Finally, the Annual Sports Meet came to an end leaving behind cherished memories for one and all.
