WORKSHOP ON FIRST AID

Description: First Aid is not only an important aspect of Disaster Management but it is very essential for the safety of our students. Keeping the safety of the students and the staff in mind a workshop was conducted on 21 st March’2023 in the ERH. The purpose of the workshop was to train the teachers in administering First Aid in case of any emergency. The workshop was attended by the entire staff of St. Columba’s School. Dr. Kanta Rahul, Consultant Anesthesia and Dr. Ritwika, Senior Resident Anesthesia were our resource persons. Both doctors are affiliated with BLK Super specialty hospital. It imparted knowledge of commonly accurate situations in day-to-day life. It explained the need to remain calm in adverse situations and how to give basic medical aid to anybody if required. The session highlighted the importance of First Aid in our lives and how to equip ourselves before attending to any student. The two doctors elaborated on the common emergencies like, cuts/wounds, bleeding nose, dehydration, fall-sprains/fractures, heat exhaustion/stroke, choking, bites- animal/human, burn that can occur in a school setting. Dr. Kanta also addressed the basic life support system. The main objective were: ? how to assess a collapsed victim ? how to perform chest compression and revive breathing ? how to place an unconscious breathing victim in the recovery position. She also demonstrated the entire process with the help of Vivan, a class 10 student of our school. The workshop was followed by a doubt clarification session. The doctor answered all the questions raised by the teachers. It was an interactive and educative session to equip the teachers with skills and confidence to use first aid and c p r in real life situations. Vote of thanks was proposed by Brother Robert.
