An
inter-house Mental Maths competition was successfully conducted in the middle school
during the activity period on 23.04.2026 for Classes 4 to 10. The pen-and-paper
assessment evaluated students’ mathematical skills with varying levels of
difficulty, aiming to develop accuracy, number sense, and calculation speed.
Students
were assessed on concepts such as numbers, patterns and sequences, operations,
spatial understanding, measurement, algebra, fractions, commercial mathematics,
time, data handling, statistics, and geometry, according to their respective
classes.
All
enrolled students were given an opportunity to participate, fostering a sense
of inclusiveness and belonging while enhancing concentration.
The
students demonstrated remarkable focus while solving the 10-mark questionnaire
within the stipulated time of 10 minutes, involving rapid calculations and
logical reasoning.
Overall,
participation in the Mental Maths activity helped students exercise multiple
cognitive processes such as memory, attention, and critical thinking. Studies
suggest that regular mental exercise keeps the brain agile and adaptable,
similar to the benefits of physical activity for the body.
In
conclusion, the activity proved to be a highly productive initiative, conducted
in an atmosphere of healthy competition and intellectual engagement, leaving
students with a lasting enthusiasm for numbers.
