Workshop “Drug Free Delhi”
On 17th December 2024, a transformative workshop was conducted for students of classes 7, 8, and 9 in Edmund Rice Hall. This event was organized to support the vision of Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Mr. VK Saxena, who has initiated a month-long anti-drug campaign aimed at making Delhi a drug-free city within three years.
The workshop was led by two distinguished speakers, Mr. Avi Vatsa and Mrs. Sarika Baheti, who brought their vast knowledge and impactful experiences to address the critical issue of substance abuse. Mr. Avi Vatsa, a renowned entrepreneur and mental health counselor, has extensive experience addressing issues such as drug addiction and anxiety. Mrs. Sarika Baheti, founder of the NEERANJALI Foundation, is a dedicated advocate for social and environmental welfare. Together, they offered a comprehensive perspective on the dangers of drug use and the importance of preventive measures.
The session began with a discussion on the history of drugs and an analysis of why India is grappling with substance abuse issues. Topics such as understanding what drugs are and how they infiltrate communities were explored in depth. The speakers provided insights into the physical and mental consequences of drug use, delving into why individuals might resort to drugs—including factors such as peer pressure, escapism, boredom, and curiosity. Practical strategies for making better choices and setting goals to avoid drugs were also shared with the students.
Students actively participated in the session, sharing their thoughts and asking important questions about drug prevention and recovery. This engagement made the session more interactive and allowed for a deeper understanding of the issues discussed. The workshop concluded with students taking a solemn pledge to contribute towards a drug-free Delhi. A Q&A session followed, where students clarified their doubts and gained further insights. The event ended with Middle School Headmistress Mrs. Aparajita Pal presenting mementos to the esteemed guests as a token of appreciation.
The workshop was highly relevant and beneficial for the students, providing them with critical knowledge and practical tools to make informed decisions about their well-being. The inspiring messages from the speakers encouraged students to actively participate in building a healthier, drug-free society. This impactful session underscored the school’s commitment to fostering responsible and aware citizens ready to lead positive change in their communities.
